Opening in 1980, the Swanky Casino occupied a site with a deep-rooted history in Southern Nevada entertainment, previously home to the long-running Swanky Club, a restaurant and nightclub that had served the Las Vegas Valley communities for decades. By 1980, Boulder Highway had firmly established itself as a corridor for locals-oriented casinos, offering an alternative to the larger, tourist-focused resorts of the Las Vegas Strip. The Swanky Casino emerged during this shift, as operators sought to modernize older properties and adapt them to the growing demand for accessible, neighborhood gaming. Unlike its predecessor, which was known primarily for dining and nightlife, the Swanky Casino focused on gaming as its central attraction. The property featured a modest casino floor with slot machines, video poker, and a limited selection of table games, catering to regular players rather than destination tourists. Its scale and layout were consistent with other small casinos of the era — functional, approachable, and designed for frequent local use. The name “Swanky” was retained, preserving a sense of continuity with the site’s past while repositioning the property for a new era of gaming.
