Davy’s Locker was a beloved dive bar and slot-machine hangout that opened in 1968 at the corner of Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway, just off the Las Vegas Strip. Its standout feature was a whimsical neon fish—nicknamed “Davy”—whose playful glow became an enduring slice of Vegas character. Inside, the atmosphere was unapologetically ‘divey’ but welcoming: Internet jukebox, a handful of TV screens, a pool table, video poker terminals, and a modest selection of slot machines. The bartenders, many of whom became familiar faces, were known for their warmth and no-frills service. Regulars and tourists alike drifted in for cheap drinks—Miller High Life for around $1.50—creating a community vibe atypical for Sin City. Through the years, Davy’s Locker earned a reputation as “the best little dive bar in Las Vegas,” thanks largely to its neon fish sign and resilient spirit. In 2011, dedicated preservationists brought the iconic neon back to life after it had gone dark, but maintenance proved challenging. In 2016, new ownership took over and the original sign was dismantled soon after. While the bar itself eventually closed, the fish’s legacy endured. Its panels were rescued and repurposed inside Nevada Taste Site in the Arts District, ensuring the quirky charm of Davy’s Locker continues to swim on in Vegas’s neon history. Today, the Davy’s Locker property is home to Bert’s Gaming.
