Description

The Wild Wild West Hotel and Casino, officially known as Wild Wild West Gambling Hall & Hotel, was a long-running off-Strip gaming property that catered primarily to locals and budget-minded visitors in Las Vegas. Located at 3330 West Tropicana Avenue, just west of the Las Vegas Strip and across from the Tropicana resort corridor, the property opened in July 13, 1998 and became a familiar low-key alternative to the city’s larger resort casinos. Originally developed during a period when smaller neighborhood casinos were expanding around the Strip’s perimeter, the Wild Wild West embraced a casual Western theme that emphasized affordability and relaxed gaming. Unlike the massive resorts on Las Vegas Boulevard, the property offered a straightforward experience centered on slot machines, table games, and inexpensive food and drinks. The atmosphere was intentionally informal, appealing to locals, late-night casino workers, and visitors who preferred a less crowded environment. The casino became especially well known for its low-limit gambling and welcoming, unpretentious vibe. Over the years it built a loyal customer base of regular players who returned for familiar dealers, casual card games, and the property’s easygoing Western motif. A small hotel component provided inexpensive accommodations, further reinforcing the venue’s reputation as a value-oriented property near the Strip. During its lifetime, the Wild Wild West operated under the ownership of Station Casinos, which incorporated the property into its portfolio of locals-focused gaming venues. While Station Casinos’ larger resorts such as Palace Station and Red Rock Resort targeted full-scale entertainment markets, the Wild Wild West continued to function as a compact neighborhood casino. In the 2021, Station Casinos announced plans to redevelop the site as part of a larger project that would include a new Major League Baseball stadium and surrounding entertainment district for the relocating Oakland Athletics. As redevelopment plans progressed, the Wild Wild West closed on September 7, 2022 and was demolished soon thereafter. Though it never aspired to the spectacle of the Strip’s mega-resorts, Wild Wild West Hotel and Casino remains an example of the small, approachable gaming halls that helped sustain Las Vegas’s everyday gambling culture for decades. Its legacy reflects the city’s long tradition of neighborhood casinos serving locals alongside the world-famous Strip.
