Venue History

POP’S Philly Steaks, officially Pride of Philly Steaks, is a beloved Las Vegas sandwich shop that has become a true local legend for cheesesteak lovers. Located at 501 South Decatur Boulevard, at the southeast corner of Alta and Decatur, POP’S opened in 2002 and built its reputation on authentic Philadelphia-style flavor served around the clock. The restaurant’s name comes from its full title, Pride of Philly Steaks, but customers quickly shortened it to POP’S, a nickname the business embraced. Founded by Perry and Barbara Walton, North Carolina transplants with a deep appreciation for Philadelphia food culture, POP’S quickly grew into a family-run Las Vegas institution. The business is now run by their daughter, Christina, continuing the family ownership that has helped give the restaurant its warm, neighborhood-driven identity. Part of POP’S appeal is its unmistakable setting. The distinctive A-frame building on Decatur gives the restaurant an old-school roadside character that feels right at home in Las Vegas. Its location away from the Strip has helped it become a go-to destination for locals, late-night workers, cab drivers, service-industry employees, and visitors searching for something more authentic than a tourist-trap meal. The menu centers on cheesesteaks made with classic options such as steak or chicken, grilled onions, mushrooms, peppers, provolone, American cheese, or Cheese Whiz. Popular Philadelphia-style items include the pepper-and-mushroom cheesesteak, cheesesteak hoagies, grinders, onion rings, fried green beans, mozzarella sticks, Tastykake treats, and other comfort-food favorites. Another major part of the restaurant’s identity is its 24/7/365 schedule. POP’S has promoted itself as open every day, all day, making it a dependable stop for lunch, dinner, and especially late-night cravings. More than two decades after opening, POP’S Philly Steaks remains a fixture of Las Vegas food culture. It represents the kind of independent, family-run restaurant that earns loyalty through consistency, personality, and flavor, proof that in a city famous for celebrity chefs and resort dining, a great cheesesteak shop on Decatur can – and has – become just as iconic.
