Description

Jennie V’s Casino was a short-lived but memorable downtown gambling hall that operated at 111 E. Ogden Avenue from 1976 to 1977, a period when the blocks just north of Fremont Street were packed with small, personality-driven clubs and shoestring casino ventures. What made Jennie V’s stand out wasn’t size or spectacle—it was the sheer improbability of its ownership story. According to historical accounts, the casino was opened by an unlikely trio: a California physician, an airline pilot, and a pit boss from the Sahara —a combination that feels quintessentially Vegas in the 1970s, when hustle and reinvention still had room to breathe downtown. The property itself had already lived several lives before the Jennie V’s came along. The address had cycled through multiple identities—including the Cinnabar Club (1959–1965), Sinabar (1972), Bob Stupak’s Sinabar (1974–1975), and The Vault Casino (mid-1970s)—before becoming Jennie V’s for roughly a year. This rapid-fire rebranding tells you a lot about the era: downtown was full of small rooms trying to find the right hook, the right crowd, or simply the next paycheck. Jennie V’s offered a surprisingly robust mix for a compact venue. Contemporary summaries note five blackjack (21) tables, a craps table, a Big Six Wheel, about 22 slot machines, and a bar – a complete “mini casino” lineup designed to keep action moving and customers lingering. Though it didn’t last long, Jennie V’s is a perfect snapshot of 1970s downtown Las Vegas: entrepreneurial, transitional, and intensely local—where a new name on the door could mean a fresh roll of the dice for a tough little address that refused to stay quiet. Today the property footprint that held Jennie V’s was absorbed into the Fremont Street Experience.
