Description

The Jackpot Casino & Restaurant operated at 2410 South Las Vegas Boulevard, at the northeast corner of Sahara Avenue and the main Strip, during the early to mid-1970s. It opened in 1971 and remained in business until some time in 1977 to 1978—a modest but memorable part of the north-Strip scene. Positioned opposite the Sahara Hotel and Casino, the establishment combined gaming and casual dining into one concept. Marketing tactics leaned into affordability: patrons were lured in with deals like a 15-cent hot dog and soft drink, five free nickels for slot play, a free drink of choice, and a combo dubbed the Jackpot sandwich and drink for just 56 cents—all clearly designed to stand out in an increasingly competitive environment. While details remain scarce, it appears the venue focused primarily on slot machines and simple table games, with the restaurant serving as a casual food-outlet catering to both locals and budget-conscious tourists. Its approachable branding and pricing captured a simpler era of hospitality before the mega-resort expansion reshaped the area’s economics and aesthetic. Following its closure in the later 1970s, the building was eventually cleared and integrated into what is now Bonanza Gift Shop, a sprawling retail-themed attraction that dominates that block of the Strip today. Though Jackpot Casino & Restaurant operated for less than a decade, it embodied the spirit of independent Strip venues—customer-focused, promotional, unpretentious, and rooted in quick service. Its legacy isn’t preserved in grand architecture or iconic signage, but in the memory of savvy travelers and in collector circles where references to its quirky promotions still surface … and, of course, on our beautiful Jackpot Casino & Restaurant t-shirt.
