Foxy’s Delicatessen, Restaurant, and Bakery was a landmark Las Vegas eatery that served locals, entertainers, and tourists alike from 1955 to 1975. Opened by Abe “Foxy” Fox at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue (then known as San Francisco Avenue), the 24-hour Jewish deli quickly became a fixture of early Strip culture, known for its hearty meals, welcoming atmosphere, and progressive spirit. Foxy’s offered classic New York-style deli fare—Reuben sandwiches, matzo ball soup, chopped liver, and egg creams—served in a casual, bustling setting. The restaurant’s famous chocolate chiffon pie earned cult status among regulars, and the staff was known for fast service with personality. Beyond the menu, Foxy’s was distinguished by its inclusive ethos: it was one of the first integrated restaurants near the Strip, offering local Blacks and famous Black entertainers a place to dine and socialize during an era when segregation still barred them from many casino dining rooms. Over the years, Foxy’s became a favorite haunt of Las Vegas entertainers and celebrities. The likes of Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Don Rickles, Shecky Greene, and Liberace were often spotted in its booths. Liza Minnelli and songwriter Paul Williams were also regulars, with Williams reportedly composing songs for Bugsy Malone at one of the tables. Despite its modest size, Foxy’s captured the essence of mid-century Vegas—friendly, unpretentious, and full of character. Abe Fox sold the deli in 1975 to pursue real estate, and the site was soon converted into Foxy’s Firehouse Casino. Still, the deli’s legacy endures in Vegas lore as a symbol of hospitality, equality, and the city’s formative years—when a good sandwich and a welcoming seat could bring stars and everyday folks together under one neon glow. Today the former property of Foxy’s Delicatessen, Restaurant, and Bakery is home to a Walgreens.
