Its neighboring barber shop added to the atmosphere, making the small center feel like a civic clubhouse for old Las Vegas. Despite its reputation among power brokers, Poppa Gar’s never lost its down-home character. Miner was known for greeting customers personally and taking genuine interest in the people who came through his doors. That personal touch gave the restaurant a loyalty few places achieve. After 33 years in business, Poppa Gar’s closed in 1998, marking the end of a beloved chapter in Las Vegas dining history.
