Description

Jokers Wild Casino was a long-running locals-oriented gaming property in Southeast Las Vegas, known for its affordability, low-key atmosphere, and enduring presence outside the glitz of the Strip. Located at 920 North Boulder Highway, the casino traced its origins to 1940s, when it opened as the Swanky Club. In 1990, the property became Cattle Baron Casino, a Western-themed property developed by Bennett Cohen and Michael Gaughan. The concept leaned into cowboy imagery and a casual gaming experience tailored to nearby residents rather than tourists. In 1993, the property became Jokers Wild Casino, shifting to a playful, card-themed identity. Despite the name change, the casino retained its core mission: providing simple, accessible gaming with a strong emphasis on value. Unlike larger resorts, Jokers Wild has never aimed for spectacle. Instead, it built its reputation on low minimum bets, friendly service, and a relaxed environment where regulars feel at home. The casino floor was compact but functional, featuring slot machines, video poker, and a handful of table games geared toward casual players. Over the years, Jokers Wild became especially known for offering some of the lowest blackjack limits in Las Vegas Valley, reinforcing its appeal to budget-conscious gamblers. Its straightforward layout and lack of pretense made it easy to navigate, reflecting a philosophy rooted in convenience and familiarity. Dining options traditionally centered on value-driven offerings, including coffee shop-style fare and quick-service meals designed to complement the casino’s everyday appeal. Like many locals casinos, the emphasis was on affordability rather than upscale dining, further strengthening its connection to the surrounding community. Ownership of the property evolved over the years, with Boyd Gaming acquiring it as part of a broader expansion into the locals market. Under Boyd, Jokers Wild continued operating with minimal changes, preserving the qualities that made it successful in the first place. However, Boyd Gaming closed Jokers Wild on March 22, 2026, and on March 25, 2026, reopened as Cadence Crossing Casino. Jokers Wild Casino is a reminder of a different side of Las Vegas, one defined not by luxury or spectacle, but by accessibility, consistency, and neighborhood loyalty. Its longevity speaks to the enduring appeal of simple, value-focused gaming in a city constantly reinventing itself.
