The Hacienda was a Las Vegas resort and casino built in 1956 by Warren Bayley, who also owned other Hacienda-named properties in California. After some delays with the Nevada Gaming Commission, the Hacienda fully opened on October 17, 1956. The $6 million property had 266 rooms and the largest pool on the Strip. The Hacienda was the first resort to target a family clientele and operated a plane service until 1962. After Bayley’s death in 1964, his wife, Judy, took over the property, becoming the only female casino owner in Las Vegas. The resort was sold to investors who added an RV park for guests and was sold entirely to Paul Lowden in 1977. In 1995, Circus Circus Enterprises purchased the Hacienda with plans to demolish the remaining structures and build a new resort. The Hacienda closed on December 1, 1996, and the last structures were demolished in 1997. The property is now occupied by the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
