Opened in 1964, Pussycat a’ Go-Go was one of the earliest and most iconic go-go clubs in Las Vegas, a venue that blended risqué entertainment with the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll. Located on the famed Strip, it quickly became a legendary hotspot for locals, tourists, and celebrity entertainers from the Strip who were eager for the wild, electric atmosphere that only a mixture of youth and Vegas could deliver. At a time when the city was transitioning from Rat Pack glamour to something edgier and more aggressive, Pussycat a’ Go-Go captured the spirit of the era. The club was known for its bold signage, cage dancers in bikinis, pulsing music, and a lineup of emerging rock bands, many of which would later become household names. The club played a crucial role in Las Vegas’s musical and nightlife evolution, serving as one of the few venues in town where live rock acts were featured regularly in a dance-club setting. Notably, Pussycat a’ Go-Go hosted The Doors during their rise to fame; it’s widely rumored Jim Morrison was once kicked out of the club for his unpredictable on-stage antics. Other notable acts, such as The Byrds, Iron Butterfly, Sly and the Family Stone, The Checkmates LTD, Stark Naked and the Car Thieves, and countless others performed at the venue, making it a key player in introducing counterculture music to the city’s traditionally lounge-dominated entertainment scene. The club’s vibe was equal parts hedonistic and celebratory, with mirrored walls, swirling lights, and a pulsating dance floor that never rested. While it permanently closed in 1971, Pussycat a’ Go-Go’s legacy lives on as a symbol of a shifting Las Vegas—one that was beginning to trade tuxedos for tie-dye, and supper clubs for psychedelic stages. Pussycat a’ Go-Go is remembered not only for its entertainment but for its contribution to the city’s identity during a pivotal cultural shift. Today the land occupied by Pussycat a’ Go-Go is home to Wynn Resort and Casino.
