Nevada Palace Hotel and Casino opened on July 3, 1979, with 100 hotel rooms and a 15,000 square foot casino. The original owners were casino veteran Gene Lucas, Robert Mariscal, Bill Gallagher, Dan Straub, and Rene Diaz. A year later, Lucas left, and the property filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. On July 31, 1980, creditors forced the hotel to close for a day, and the casino shut down for 10 months. The property changed owners but entered Chapter 11 again in January 1983, remaining until William Wortman and Renate Schiff acquired it in late 1985. They added a new tower, increasing hotel rooms to over 200. In 2005, Wortman bought out Schiff and sold Nevada Palace to Cannery Casino Resorts. The hotel closed in February 2008 and was demolished soon thereafter for the Eastside Cannery Hotel and Casino project, which opened on August 28, 2008. The top logo portion of the Nevada Palace sign was donated to the Las Vegas Neon Museum. After the Eastside Cannery opened on August 28, 2008, workers from the Nevada Palace were transferred to the new hotel. Today the Nevada Palace land is the front parking lot for Eastside Cannery along Boulder Highway.
